Charlie Ashworth is a Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney, and the founder of Venture Proof.  Charlie has spent the past 12 years helping businesses, inventors and entrepreneurs to protect their innovative ventures.  She co-authored the Dummies Guide to Patents, Registered Designs, Trade Marks and Copyright and has assessed over 3,000 ideas since entering the profession in 2002.

Charlie has a degree in Industrial Design Engineering, and a Masters in Intellectual Property Law and Management.  She went on to work for a leading design consultancy, then an invention house, and has helped to protect ideas from a wide variety of market sectors to include medical devices, green-tech, toys and web technologies. She spotted a need for a 21st Century intellectual property consultancy, and is working with partners, consultants and other experts to deliver advice, support & fixed-price services to protect your assets.


James Peel is a Chartered UK Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney, and a European community designs attorney.  Having a degree in chemistry and experience in the pharmaceutical industry, James is able to work with chemical, biotech and pharmaceutical technologies. He has experience of inventions concerning new chemical entities, polymers, dyes, pharmaceutical compositions, catalysts, agrochemicals, antibodies, cements and resins.

James also has experience of helping companies protect mechanical devices such as plumbing devices, cleaning products, locks, rock bolts and medical devices such as stents, syringes, autoclaves, operating tables and pharmaceutical delivery devices e.g. inhalers

James runs his own practice J. P. Peel & Co Ltd.


Allister McManus a Registered Trade Mark Attorney dealing with both contentious and non-contentious trade mark work. Allister has experience in both UK and EU Community Trade Marks and in managing international trade mark portfolios, which includes due diligence/searching, filing, prosecution, and maintenance of trade marks.

Allister also assists clients with pre-litigation trade mark issues, including pursuing and defending infringements and anti-counterfeiting strategies..


John Grant MBE is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys, a European Patent Attorney, and a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Agents as well as several other organisations having to do with Intellectual Property (IP). He is a member of the Intellectual Property Awareness Network.

For most of his earlier career he worked at the construction materials company Redlands plc and managed their worldwide portfolio of IP. He has summarised this accumulated wisdom in a well received book on IP written for the lay reader. The book, Patents, Registered Designs, Trade Marks and Copyright for Dummies was published in 2008 to general acclaim from the Profession and business associations. For the last nine years he has worked as a consultant to TBB plc, an organisation set up to help inventors.
